Saturday Game Day (08/24/2013)

I spent Saturday afternoon running Pathfinder demo's at Draxtar Games in Batavia IL. The store opened a few months ago and they have been busy running a lot of Magic: The Gathering and other games, but are looking to expand their offerings, especially in the area of RPG's. I volunteered to run some Pathfinder and things went really well. I was able run to three sessions over the course of the afternoon and everyone appeared to have a good time. The store was pretty filled all day with other game demo's being provided as well, a good day all around.

"Hi! Wanna play?"
Since it was just a demo I used the introductory adventure from the Pathfinder Beginner Box. This was the module our Friday Night group walked through when we had introduced ourselves the game about a year ago. Each session took 60-90 minutes to complete, and whoever put that particular adventure together did an excellent job of tying in a lot of the elements of game play into such a small story line. It's always nice to be able to swing a sword or cast a magic missile, but it is also good to get a reminder that it is possible to win an encounter without actually killing the bad guy. There were several puzzles and traps to figure out, some surprises along the way, and big surprise at the end - very well thought out. I only had to resort to the "Official DM Hint" option a few times - it was a lot of fun.

The store will have another demo day in October, so we'll see what my schedule looks like then. We also discussed the possibility having an "all day" adventure session. Pathfinder have plenty of modules that are designed for uses such as this ... if we could get a set of players lined up, and if my schedule allowed, well, we'll see where this goes.
